About Joe B.

In September 2011 I began to run around the campus of Mississippi College in Clinton, MS to burn off some excess weight & energy.  That decision has led to a development that has taken over many aspects of my life.  I completed my first 5k race in October of 2011, my first half marathon in November 2011, and my first full 26.2 mile marathon in January 2012.  Along the way I have learned much about myself, about adversity, and about the effort level it takes to reach a goal set for yourself.

As 2012 continued forward I found myself looking for more ways to benefit myself and others through running.  What I discovered was a group of people who I had met through my years spent participating in Drum Corps.  A group of former marching members of the Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corps are part of a non-profit pending running group called Jonnie’s GoodGuys.  Created after the loss of a friend to Marfan Syndrome JGG runs to raise awareness of Marfan Syndrome as well as other heart related and non-related diseases.  The group has welcomed me into their campaigns and together we are working to Do Good Stuff. In addition to my original fundraising efforts for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital throughout 2012, I joined JGG in an effort to raise money for the National Marfan Foundation to raise awareness through participation in the NMF’s Team Heart and Soul in the Marine Corps Marathon.
