Updates & Catch Up

So a busy back half of the summer and an even busier fall semester has left my fundraising mostly unupdated.  Here is what has been going on.  As if fundraising $2,500 for St. Jude Children’s Hospital wasn’t enough work and effort on my part I also signed up mid summer to join Team Heart & Soul by the National Marfan Foundation to participate in the Marine Corps Marathon. So tack an extra $750 charity commitment on top of St. Jude to make for a great year to Do Good Stuff.  I have been blessed enough to hook up with a non profit pending group out of Indianapolis dedicated to raising funds for various charities through running known as Jonnie’s GoodGuys.  I was fortunate enough over the course of a few short months to raise the funds for the NMF and participate as a member of Team Heart and Soul at the Marine Corps Marathon in Arlington, VA.

As for St. Jude…

My school hosted a Faculty vs Students basketball game with proceeds to benefit the St. Jude Heroes resulting in an incredibly helpful $1,523.83 donation.  Currently I sit at just under 90% of my goal.  $2,168.83 down and just $331.17 to go.

Keep spreading the word, keep working to Do Good Stuff.

Fun in the Sun Marathon

Long Beach, CA

Marathon on a Budget is the perfect description for this race.  Truly an incredible race in unbelievable conditions.  In the midst of my California summer vacation I stumbled across a marathon in Long Beach, CA.  With just a week or two before the race I figured why not give it a shot, cheap registration for a 26.2 mile excursion along a beach front pathway.  The race had 2 loops, a 3 mile loop and a 7 mile loop.  Each of the race distances (5k, 7 miler, 10 miler, half marathon, marathon, ultra) consisted of various combinations of the loops. The Marathon was 3,7,3,7,3,3. One aid station was positioned at the start/finish line between the loops so you pass the table multiple times during the race.  Low crowds, great weather, sand, water, a perfect marathon scenario put on by Rocket Racing Productions.  I can guarantee I will be checking their race calendar for all future trips to the West Coast.  Full Race Results can be found at the link below.

I finished this race in 4:25:32 putting me 6th overall of the 14 marathon competitors.  Total competitor numbers are as follows 2 5k, 2 7Mile, 5 10Mile, 98 Half Marathon, 3 21Mile, 14 Marathon, 11 50k.

Rock n Roll New Orleans Marathon

New Orleans, LA

Marathon No. 2 came much easier than the Blues. The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon experience is like no other.  As they boast their popularity in the marathon world the number of participants definitely support them.  Tens of thousands of runners took the line to run through downtown NOLA, through the French Quarter, out to the Ponchatrain, and back to city park.  Such a great course to run on.

Mississippi Blues Marathon

Jackson, MS

26.2 Miles to kick off the year 2012.  Official finish time of my first marathon was 4:35:16.  The course was rough with many hills and a fairly high temperature to top it off.  Finishing the race brought with it an incredible feeling of accomplishment and paying off the hard work put forth in the last few months.  Along with me through the race was my training partner & coworker Robert Pittman.
